Tokay, binomial name: Gekko Gecko has unique loud vocalization. We can hear the voice at night. Tokay lives ranging from northeast India and Bangladesh, throughout Southeast Asia, to Indonesia and western New Guinea. Tokay's native habitat is rainforests, trees, cliffs, and frequently they can adapt to human habitations, like houses or ceilings. Unfortunately, by increasing human urbanization makes its range decrease. That's why I found it so rarely.Tokay, generally, has range length 30-40 cm for males and 20-30 for females. Almost 50% of its body is its tail. The weight's range is 150-300 gr. The appearance is also unique, with bluish or grayish body, so many spots in its body from light yellow to bright red. The males have color more brightly than the female.
Anyway, be careful with this animal. Once you’re bitted, it’s almost impossible to detach without harming the Tokay. The jaw muscle will be locked to keep biting. Even, some Indonesian old people said that once you’re bitted by Tokay, it’ll never detach till thunder come. Wow... I have a tip for you if you want to touch or observe Tokay. How? Just find a twig or rag cloth. When the Tokay opens its mouth (Tokays do this when they feel they’re being attacked or threaten and it shows that they are ready to bite) let it bite the twig or rag cloth. It will never detach its bite till you let it go. And you can touch and observe the Tokay safely.
But, what must I do if I’m bitten and I don’t want to harm the Tokay? Put it into floor and don’t move at all. You have to pretend as a statue. Just keep this going on till the Tokay think that it safe. It’ll detach and go. But for the consequence, you’ll get unbearable pain for several minutes (maybe several hours, who’s know?).
I wonder why some people want own these species even though they have to spend much money. The price range is IDR 5000, 00 up to IDR 2.000.000.000, 00. What's on earth with them! I think, they want it because of hobby. They like Tokay’s appearance even the voice! Purportedly, Tokay can be used as medicines, increasing man's “ability” in sexual activity, or curing some disease. They usually are fried or extracted the oil. Wow...
Somehow, I hate this species. It's so repugnant and has an annoying croaks. But, if I find Tokay (especially for the unique one) I'll catch it, because some people will pay so high for this animal. He...he...he...
