My Poor GPA Semesters

Categories:

I am neither in a dean list, a genius, nor a student with cum-laude GPA. Even I took a long time to graduate (yeah, how could I be in dean list or a cum-laude student while I took a longer time to graduate?). And I know, my GPA is not something I can be proud of. And I'm not saying that GPA is everything. But still, if you're a university student, you do need a good GPA.

If you wanna get employed, you will need a good GPA. If you wanna get scholarship, you will also need a good GPA. Yeah, it doesn't have to be a cum-laude one, but if you have a cum-laude one, it's gonna be better. I am not saying your GPA determine your success in the future. But your GPA is kinda a "gateway" to enter your employment world. GPA doesn't describe how smart are you, but it describes how hard you worked and studied in your university. Well, that's only my opinion. I can be wrong.

So why am I telling you all of these? Don't worry, I won't lecture you to study. But I just wanna share my story, so you won't do the same mistakes. I ever got bad GPA semesters, really bad ones. Because of this, I had to retake some courses in the semesters after.

GPA Semesters

Can you see the graph? I did well in the 1st semesters, but my GPA semester kept decreasing until the 4th semester. At that time, I just played around. I knew, I was entering engineering world but I didn't study well. And you can see the result. All praise to Allah, I could fix the mess I made in the 5th and 6th semester. Yeah, they were still ordinary GPAs.

Btw, I got student exchange scholarship to University of Wyoming, USA, so I took academic leave for 2 semesters (semester 7 and 8) from Telkom Institute of Technology, Indonesia. And for particular reasons, I didn't take any courses in the 10th semesters. So I dropped those semesters from the graph. Anyway, I didn't know why World Learning granted the scholarship to a so-so student like me. I wonder, may be there was a mistake during the selection process. Who knows? Hahahaha...

Thanks to Allah, I learnt many things from my experience in the USA, including what hard work is. I realize, success is not born, but it's made. To make your success, you don't have any ways but work hard.

After coming back from USA, I tried to study harder in the 9th semester. I woke up in the middle of the nights (uhm... I mean in the very early mornings) to do extra study. I did this because I knew I was (and "am") not a genius. And the my GPA semesters increased, until the last semester in Telkom Institute of Technology. Ups, sorry, I think it's fine to show off a little bit after I got hell-like GPA semester in the 2nd and 3rd semester, hahaha....

So? Only one message, "Work hard!". Keep your faith! You gotta believe that you can make it if you keep working hard.

That's all. Thanks for reading :)
